Workshops

Venue: CSED Seminar Hall, 10-11 November 2012

Along with 250 technical institutions all over India, Department of Computer Science and Engineering at NIT Calicut also joined in the novel and unique initiative of Ministry of Human Resource and Development, Government of India by hosting the first workshop on the world renowned low-cost tablet computers Aakash.  The workshop was conducted by IIT Bombay through distance mode, using the A-VIEW system. Main aim of the workshop was to introduce Aakash and its use to faculty members from various technical institutes in classroom teaching and learning.

The workshop started at 8AM of 10th Nov 2012 with the registration of 24 enthusiastic faculty members from various departments of NIT Calicut. The inauguration of the workshop by Prof. Devang Khakhar, Director IIT Bombay started at 9:05AM, followed by talk on Introduction to Aakash project by Prof. Deepak B Phatak. Later technical team from IIT Bombay demonstrated Aakash education applications.

Workshop on the Essence of Computing

In conjunction with the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the National Institute of Technology Calicut, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in association with IEEE Students Branch and CSI Calicut Chapter conducted IGNITE 2011, a two day workshop on the Essence of Computing for High School Students on April 8 and 9.The program was targeted for high school students from Government schools in  Calicut district. The program witnessed participation from 40 brilliant students from 40 different Govt/Govt aided Schools in and around Calicut. The students were introduced to the science of computing in its true spirits through active learning  sessions. The major topics of the workshop included Problem Solving Methodology, Algorithms, Mathematics and Computer Science, Distributed Algorithms, Computational Origami and Cryptography. IGNITE 2011 is a potential  beginning for a host of community learning programs over the coming years. The department hopes to conduct IGNITE as an annual event, extending its reach and scope.

One day workshop on Bioinformatics was conducted on April 1, 2009.

K A Abdul Nazeer, Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, NIT Calicut, Dr. Santhosh J Eapen, Senior Scientist, Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR), Kozhikode and Prof. Mathew Palakal, School of Informatics, IUPUI, USA gave lectures for the workshop.

ISTE Workshop for DataBase Management Systems under the National Mission on Education through ICT, MHRD, Govt. of India was conducted at our NIT Calicut (remote center) in association with the IIT Bombay. The faculty for the course was Prof. S. Sudarshan from IIT Bombay.
